Just wishing all my friends and family a happy and safe New Year and hope everyone has a cracking 2013.

I love shooting scenes from everyday life. I like to think it gives us a broader view of the world we live. Is it voyeuristic? Of Course it is! That's what makes it so fascinating. The capturing of a moment in time (clichéd words I know) of that person, that happening, that moment, is the thing that I love. To see a moment and not to shoot it is almost painful.
To quote from one of the masters
”There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative. Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever.”- Henri Cartier-Bresson
Those words could not have been more true, I’ve forgotten the number of times that I have seen an image and not had my camera with me.
This shot of 2 young kids, was taken in Brighton, totally oblivious to the camera they were content with seeing the world outside, whilst enjoying their lollipops. It was the concentration on their faces which I loved.
3 people enjoying the Autumn sunshine on the south bank of the Thames. I loved the relaxed nature of the group juxtaposed against the manicured lawn, and the formal, but entertaining water sculpture.
Pigeons in Trafalgar square on a moody afternoon reminded me of the squadrons of bombers that flew over the London during WW2 air raids.
Well winter snow has finally arrived; anything above 400 meters had a covering. Went up to Stanage Edge as I knew this would give me a great view of the Mam Tor ridgeline. It was bitingly cold even though the sun was out and the sky that was so blue. The wind-chill on gloveless hands was severe. Operating a camera with hefty gloves on was a bind though. Negotiating the road back down into Hathersage was a thrill. 1st gear descent and no braking was leaving me feeling a little twitchy.
Surprisingly the road up Winnats pass and over Mam Tor was very clear and little ice to speak of. The views from the Mam were simply breath taking; the late afternoon winter sun highlighted perfectly the landscape. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Over the weekend I was out in The Peak the weather was gorgeous fleeting clouds, and hard edged sunlight threw everything into sharp contrast. I travelled up the A515 out past Sterndale Moor and was amazed by the lack of people and cars. This area is known as the White Peak because the Limestone is not capped by the much harder Gritstone, Hence the terms White & Dark Peak.
The area is ideally for a visit, it's nowhere near as busy as Castleton, Edale, or Ladybower. The landscape offers fantastic panoramic views over Staffordshire, Cheshire and South Debyshire. Take a trip out and discover the quieter beauty of Alsop on the dale or Middleton by Yougrave and avoid the busy crowds.

The last few days have been glorious, hard frost and sunny days. The garden is full of death and decay, waiting for the warmth of spring, to breathe new life into it.
